Daytona Beach Bike Week 2003
As I rode into Daytona on the first weekend of Bike Week this year, I honestly wondered if it was worth it. What the hell, I didn't have anything better to do.
I didn't get a single shot on Friday. Everyone was very tight-bloused, understandably. As per normal procedure, over the 1/4 mile or so stretch of Main Street, there were cops posted at every intersection, patrol bikes riding back and forth (presumably) chasing speeders, loud pipes and other nonsense, and uniforms walking up and down the sidewalks.
Way to set the party atmosphere, Daytona!!
"Main at Night" Wallpaper here in 800x600 or 1024x768So when I returned on Saturday night, I was wondering if I'd get anything at all this year. Below you see what I got permission to post. It's a miracle I got this much, considering the half million dollar budget the city set aside for extra cops. It seems they are getting what they wanted, as the attendance this year fell by about 50%. They blamed the weather. It did rain a lot, but I don't buy it. Could Bikers actually be Taking The Party Elsewhere? Is there a lesson to be learned? A possible message to the city elders? I dunno, something about old dogs and new tricks.
I still managed to enjoy myself, caught a few daring shots and made some new friends. (A special shout to Kim and Jean, a lovely pair who befriended me, I still don't know why but I sure as hell enjoyed it!) Once again, I have to thank all the great babes who give me a reason to ride out, and who are determined to have fun no matter what! I just wish I could post ALL the pix I actually get!
